Trump Calls Families of Injured National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He noted that he contacted her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s talked about a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Response
Attendees came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to honor Beckstrom.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of Trump’s government program to assist law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s former high school, told the media. “She was sweet, caring and always eager to help others.”
Memorial plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to pause refugee claims and halt providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Status of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He remains under medical supervision and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s leader Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general the attorney general stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to speak to the family.
Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with distinction, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” the governor addressed the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
