'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Families of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await Answers After Ski Resort Fire
The loved ones of young people unaccounted for after a tragic blaze at a venue in a Switzerland's winter destination are enduring an painful period of uncertainty for answers and pleading for any details about their loved ones publicly.
The fire devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of January 1st. Verified images show the roof structure catching alight as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.
Emergency services have indicated that it could take an extended period to formally name the victims of the disaster, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and wounded another over a hundred. Authorities noted on Friday that 113 of the injured have been accounted for, with work continuing to name the remaining few.
In the meantime, families and friends have been using online platforms to plead for any news about their friends who were present at the venue that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Unaccounted For
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.
The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in the capital, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's terrible," she said.
She continued that some of his peers had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's indescribable; they experienced an absolute nightmare."
The Italian government has said that a number of of its nationals are still unaccounted for.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "talented young man who represented dedication and true sportsmanship."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has stated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His parent said that he had been on vacation but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"A close friend said they ran away after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she explained, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
One of his educators commented, "He was known for his good nature and smile, coupled with great maturity. Every time ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her sibling has shared an appeal online, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the developments.
