The network's Top Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family go about their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the gentle humor of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
