The Latest Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Discussions Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative ways to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another lists all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Be Made?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
