Investigative Photograph
An esteemed Russian general has been killed following an explosion in Moscow, according to reports from authorities.
The event took place on Monday morning when an bomb placed beneath a vehicle exploded, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov held the position of the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
Authorities mentioned that one possible explanation suggests the potential involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has remained silent.
Site of the Attack
Officials have been sent to the site, which is said to be in a southern district of the capital.
Accounts state the detonation took place in a parking area near a residential building.
Series of Targeted Attacks
Since the beginning of the large-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military officials have been attacked within Moscow.
This new event echoes other serious incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov died in late 2024 when a bomb hidden on a scooter was detonated remotely.
While a source from Ukraine in the past linked Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are never officially confirmed as a matter of official stance.
Hostilities has witnessed clandestine operations reaching into the heart of the Russian capital.
The probe into General Sarvarov's death continues to be ongoing.
