Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The previous coach was sacked on the weekend after the team's ten-game without a victory start to the Premier League season.
And both candidates - both of who have previous links to the team - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Molineux.
However the ex- Luton head coach - who made over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a leading candidate for the position.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the Wolves directors as they begin the search of hiring a fresh head coach.
Gary O'Neil is additionally appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock appointment considering he was sacked by Wolves in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to pay any buyout fee.
