Palestinian-American Adolescent Freed After Nine-Month Period in Israel's Imprisonment

A Palestinian-American youth after completing 270 days in imprisonment by Israel absent formal charges was released.

The teenager Mohammed Ibrahim was 15 when he was arrested this past winter in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, during a family visit from his Florida home for allegedly throwing stones toward Israeli settlers, allegations he repeatedly contested.

United States authorities applauded Mohammed's liberation.

Currently aged sixteen, was taken to hospital for treatment immediately after release, relatives told the media.

According to them, he appears showing signs of malnutrition, and is suffering from conditions developed during imprisonment.

In a statement, the youth's uncle expressed the family's "overwhelming sense of relief".

Family member Zeyad Kadur described how relatives endured "surviving a terrible, unending nightmare" over the last nine months.

"Currently, we're concentrating on getting Mohammed the immediate medical attention he requires after being subjected to harsh conditions and brutal treatment over several months."

American authorities announced ongoing to offer diplomatic assistance to the teenager's relatives.

{"American leadership has no higher priority to the protection and welfare of American nationals"," it added.

A group of American legislators had signed a letter to US authorities and President Donald Trump, requesting additional efforts to release him.

The father, with four children operating an ice cream shop based in Tampa, previously said his son only confessed about rock throwing after being assaulted by soldiers.

He had not seen or communicated with his son since February, and only heard about his son's condition through judicial records.

Mohammed was held absent formal charges in Ofer prison in the West Bank.

It is also home to grown detainees, including individuals found guilty of serious terrorism offences and homicide.

Approximately 350 Palestinian minors in security custody detained within Israeli facilities, based on prison authority data.

Numerous remain uncharged and human rights groups, as well as the United Nations, report instances of abuse and torture.

Following Mohammed's release, family representatives announced they would maintain their efforts demanding accountability for their family member Sayfollah Musallet.

The 20-year-old dual US citizen who the Palestinian health ministry said was beaten to death by radical settlers following tensions during summer.

Initially, the Israeli military said authorities were looking into accounts of a Palestinian had been killed.

Both young men collaborated in the family ice cream shop based in Florida.

No charges have been filed with Sayfollah's killing.

"We demand US authorities to safeguard our relatives," family representatives emphasized.
