The composer is believed to have created the pair of organ works early in his career

Previously unknown musical pieces by the musical genius Bach have been presented and played in the central European country for the premiere performance in three hundred twenty years.

The nation's Culture Minister the cultural official labeled the discovery of the two compositions a "important event for the global music scene".

They initially attracted notice of Peter Wollny in 1992 when he was documenting the composer's papers at the Belgian royal collection.

The musical compositions - the Chaconne composition in D minor and G minor Chaconne - were undated and unsigned. The researcher spent the following three decades working to verify the origin of the pieces.

Landmark Presentation

They were performed at the historic Leipzig church in the eastern German municipality, where the composer is laid to rest and where he served as a cantor for twenty-seven years.

The two pieces were performed by Dutch musician the musical performer, who said he was privileged to be able to present them for the premiere in over three centuries.

He said the pieces were "of a very high quality" and would be "a valuable resource for organists today, as they are also appropriate for reduced-scale organs".

Historical Significance

They are thought to have been written at the beginning of Bach's professional life, when he was serving as an music instructor in the town of Arnstadt in Thuringia.

Mr Wollny, who is now the director of the musical archive in Leipzig, said they displayed several features unique to the composer.

"In terms of style, the compositions also contain elements that can be identified in Bach's works from that era, but not in those of other musicians," he said.

They are thought to have been transcribed in the early eighteenth century by one of Bach's pupils, the historical figure.

At a presentation of the pieces, the expert said he was "virtually certain that Bach had created the two compositions" and they have now been added into the authoritative listing of his musical output.
