Miami recorded eighty-six opening half scores versus the Grizzlies

The Heat secured a crushing 146 to 114 victory against the Grizzlies in their first basketball game since player Rozier was detained for alleged unlawful sports betting.

Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was also detained in connection with a sweeping federal probe into sports betting. Both men deny the claims.

But, the Miami team were not distracted as they scored eighty-six first-half scores to lead Memphis by thirty-nine after two quarters, the biggest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year existence.

Adebayo top-scored with twenty-four scores and afterwards said Terry had the team's full backing.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Bam said. "You support him through and through. He's like family at the end of the day."

Heat coach Spoelstra commented: "Terry is a person who is very dear to everyone. He's had a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he goes through the situation."

The Trail Blazers also won their initial match since the arrests, with Brazilian Splitter taking over as interim coach in Billups' absence and leading the team to a decisive 139 to 119 win over the Warriors.

"We all had great experiences with Billups and how he coached," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his family but our focus is on the game."

League Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' over Arrests

Addressing the detentions for the first time, league head Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the events of the past few days.

"There's nothing more important to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the game," he told Amazon Prime. "And so I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

The commissioner also mentioned an league probe into Rozier's conduct in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he participated for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the authorities and the gambling firms," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were very transparent regarding it. Although there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the league office can't do.

"So, we've been working with them from that point. And, of course, what they announced yesterday was an charge.

"Moreover 30 months later, he has not been found guilty of any offense, in justice to Terry.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been suspended, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."

In other games, Lakers player Luka Doncic recorded more than 40 scores for the second game in a row to begin the campaign.

Houston Rockets were defeated 115 to 111 by the Detroit Pistons despite thirty-seven points from Kevin Durant, while Wembanyama had twenty-nine points, eleven boards and nine blocks in the San Antonio Spurs' extra-time victory over the New Orleans.
