Jurgen Klopp states a return to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains an option. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included a European Cup triumph and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I won't manage a different club in England. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. It's plausible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, he confessed he isn't eager for a comeback. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I don’t miss standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. With many victories meaning regularly a very good mood in the building. I can still hear the captain's chuckle in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that won the league in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. Ekitike, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally about the death of Jota, a player he signed while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Who can fill the void of a person like him? It’s not about his footballing ability, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys too. Not a single person will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
