Citizens have come together throughout the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, as talks proceeded in the neighboring country over an end to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident resulted in in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others taken away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most fatal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by launching a military offensive in Gaza which has claimed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The violent opponents have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "achieve all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the captured, the removal of the Hamas government and the assurance that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Events Across Israel

The national leadership rescheduled state memorials until October 16th - after the completion of the religious holiday season - but gatherings still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the relatives of Israelis who died in the Hamas incident was organized in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired across Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was respected throughout the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams met in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of mediated discussions to examine the conditions of the plan.

A prominent representative involved in the negotiations said that an evening round of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, amid differences over the recommended Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not recommence combat after the opening period of the deal.

He added that the negotiations are "difficult and have not yet produce any real breakthrough," but noted that mediators are striving to reduce the gaps between the conflicting groups.

Critical Matters in Discussions

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies provision
  • After-conflict management of the area

Public Sentiment

In the city's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling lived through the attack on the outdoor event, where hundreds were killed and many more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - told: "Nowhere appears as home now and until all the hostages come back none of us will feel safe."

"When we see everybody home once more, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she concluded.

Near the leader's residence in Jerusalem, people assembled to show their backing for the families of the captives. Israel reports forty-eight continue in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be surviving.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev remarked: "We must do any agreement necessary for the captives to return. But we really want promises that we will be protected."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that approximately seventy percent of Israelis desire the hostilities to conclude in as payment for the freedom of the hostages.

Gaza Situation

At the site of Nova festival, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of Israeli air strikes and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where observers said the severe Israeli shelling persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the western district, sector and Nasr areas and in the east side district of the community, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"As the night arrives, the dread arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing previously, shared.

"My family are fearful of the attacks. During nighttime we are resting together, holding each other, especially my little child who rests his head on me the entire evening."

"Every second we monitor the news to see what happened. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be completed and that the fighting will return to us."

Medical Situation

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had accepted the corpses of six people by the daytime, including several killed in an Israeli attack in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of the city reported another two fatalities had been brought there. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while attempting to get help to the southern area, medical staff said.
